Burj Khalifa: is it really THAT tall?!

The Burj Khalifa, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

I don’t understand how people take pretty pictures with the Burj Khalifa in the background, I couldn’t fit my boyfriend’s head and the top of the Burj Khalifa in one shot. It’s not THAT big, it’s enormous!

The Figures

I’ll start with figures to describe how sensational the Burj Khalifa is:

  • It was only built in 2010 but it has already became one of the most visited places in the world.
  • It’s the tallest structure ever built – 828 m (2,717 ft) or 163 floors.
  • Wikipedia says it achieved 16 different world records.
  • When you’re standing on the outdoor observation deck which is on the 124th floor you can feel the floor moving cause of wind and it’s freaking horrifying! You can trust me on that (from my personal experience).

Burj Khalifa, Dubai, UAE

As you can see from my previous posts about Dubai, during my stay there my card was blocked by the bank. So right after I fixed this problem there were only 3 days left for us in Dubai and we tried to visit as many places as we could. The first one in our must-see list was the Burj Khalifa. Even though I’m afraid of heights I couldn’t miss the Burj Khalifa and really wanted to see it.

Burj Khalifa: How To Get There

First of all, you need to book a visit there. You can do it on their official website. The general admission ticket for two adults costs 280 AED (which is about $77). If you book your stay in Dubai via Booking.com then you’re provided with a small discount to the Dubai attractions, including The Burj Khalifa.

Be prepared: even though you have booked a certain time, you’ll have to wait in a line to get to the top (it took us about 40 minutes). The entrance is in the Dubai Mall which you can reach by metro (Check out my post about Dubai transport system to see how convenient it is). You will have to walk a long way which starts from the security guards and goes along the first floor of the Burj Khalifa. Then you’ll see an awesome hologram of the Burj Khalifa and a documentary about it that will be shown next to the line.

The elevators will take you straight to the 124th floor in a minute, where the outdoor observation deck is located. We went to see the Burj Khalifa in the evening so when we got to the deck we witnessed the whole city glowing with the evening lights – such a lovely view!

The Dubai Fountain

Furthermore, if you go there in the evening you can witness The Dubai Fountain from the top of the Burj Khalifa – another amazing sight. The Dubai fountain plays different shows every 30 minutes, we managed to watch one from the top, and another one down near the fountain – it was so overwhelming!

In the evening, the Burj Khalifa turns into a canvas for light installations. This sight is so beautiful, you wouldn’t want to miss it:

I rewatched every video I posted here a bunch of times and I still can’t believe I’ve seen it all myself! Sometimes people create fascinating things, that even just by looking at them you feel happy. See you soon 😘

☞ If you check out Wikipedia’s List of tallest buildings you may notice that 12 out of 56 buildings are located in Dubai.
